Katoomba Public School’s new mural is finished

Katoomba Public School Kitchen Garden mural

Katoomba Public School is lucky enough to have a brand new mural on the Katoomba RSL wall that adjoins our Kitchen Garden.

The mural was designed and painted by local artist Mandy Schöne-Salter (MAN.De) and was generously paid for by our neighbour, Katoomba RSL Club. Some of our favourite things about the mural are that it includes local Upper Mountains plants that we can find in the bush around us, and that it features our school’s totem – Guma, the King Parrot.

Katoomba RSL CEO Nick Darias said, “Our RSL is a community Club working for its members and the community. We have a great relationship with all local schools, especially Katoomba Public School, and we’re proud to be associated with the funding of the mural.”

Mandy Schöne-Salter is a Blue Mountains based artist working in urban art, photography and community art. Her work encompasses large-scale murals, paste-ups and stencil art works, as well as installations. Mandy has worked on street art projects both in Australia and around the world and has also worked with school students across Sydney.

We’re already planning some more lovely murals around Katoomba Public School, thanks to receiving a state government Community Building Partnerships grant. The children have lots of ideas about what else they’d like to see painted around the school, and we’ll be putting a call out to local artists very soon.

Once we can all get back to school together we’ll have a celebration to officially “open” our new mural - thank you Mandy and Katoomba RSL!
