KPS Enviro Group has the data ...

Pie graph of rubbish audit

Last Tuesday the Environmental Club were getting down to business to collect data on how much of the rubbish we create at school is actually compostable.

Everyone was interested by the results we got. Not only did we discover many discarded sandwiches in our bins, but we saw  a lot of compostable fruits and vegetables that had been put in the landfill bins rather than in our compost bins.

This initial data will give the Environmental Club a benchmark to work from with the goal of reducing the amount of compostable waste that gets thrown into our rubbish bins. We've created an interesting graph of the results of the Great Rubbish Bin Audit of 2021 (who doesn't love a pie gragh?!).

The  Environmental Club will tackle this challenge with an information blitz to educate our school community on what items can go in the compost bins rather than the waste rubbish bins and on the importance of not wasting food. We're creating informative posters and will do announcements and skits at assemblies for the  rest of Term 1 and 2. (Look out too for the arrival of Captain Compost and her/his great composting advice!)
