Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is an exponential industry that affects students and their world today.
Katoomba Public School is committed in implementing new and exciting lessons using ICT to engage and excite students in their learning.
Why ICT is important in schools:
Individual classroom workstations
Each classroom is equipped with computer workstations which are serviced by high speed connections. This means our students can:
- access the Internet faster and at a higher quality
- access network resources, such as shared pictures and documents
- print to any printer in the school
- share learning experiences with the world!
Computer lab
Our computer lab is equipped with some of the latest Apple iMacs that are serviced by high speed connections and fast Internet. Students also have access to the latest software and high quality optical devices when learning in the computer lab.
Here are some examples of the software that students may use in the computer lab:
- Microsoft Office Suite 2009
- Apple iLife '09 (including iPhoto, Garageband, iWeb)
- Adobe CS4 (including Photoshop and Premiere)
Interactive whiteboards
Each classroom is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) which gives a multimedia aspect to our students' learning. Students have the opportunity to enhance their learning by experiencing sounds, video and vivid images while being taught by a highly skilled teacher.
Students experience new and exciting ways to use the IWB as our teachers continually receive professional development so to make learning at KPS an interactive and enriching experience.
Connected Classroom
Our school is equipped with a Connected Classroom which allows students to interface with schools around Australia and the world using state-of-the-art video conferencing equipment.
Our students may, at times, experience connected excursions using this classroom. These excursions allow students to visit places around the globe and interact with professionals from those places. Excursions that have offered in the past included National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Great Barrier Reef and Alaska.
Students may also be involved in learning experiences with other schools and classes from around the world. This has, in the past, included lessons such as:
- debating with other schools
- discussion about different cultures
- news
